Some years ago the members of the rhythm section for The Pecos River Brass, one of Dallas’ premier big bands, started getting together after rehearsals to "Hang OUt" have a beer or two and talk music and other things. At some point, the mutual respect and friendship led to the formation a small jazz group with big band power and the passion to explore all styles of Jazz.   Hence, "Hang Time" was born, playing different venues around Dallas. These gifted musicians have combined their experiences to create group that is both versatile and eclectic.

Whether you like your Jazz Classic or Hot . . . Hang Time is the perfect band for your party!

Russ began his love for upright at a performing arts high school. After spending two years in the jazz studies program at Loyola of New Orleans, Russ decided to sharpen his technique by finishing a classical degree at LSU. The Bass Institute of Technology got him plugged into the L.A. scene where he freelanced for six years. He has been a “hired gun” ever since high school and currently circulates among the artists of DFW. Performance credits include Randy Newman, Lou Adler, Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and Nelson Riddle.

Paul Miller grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he started playing drums at nine years old. His musical experience reflects his eclectic tastes in music, including country, R&B, pop, jazz, hard rock, and show tunes. It also includes filming the first wide screen rock concert for the movie “Sweet Connie,” in which he also had a speaking part, and playing in venues from small clubs to football stadiums. That broad experience has given him a style unique to him, and which is an integral part of the sound of Hang Time. As he likes to say, “Just give me a good band to play with, and an audience to hear, and I’m a happy guy.”

Richard Aulenbacher, a self-taught guitarist. Raised on a dairy farm in Wisconsin, who bought his first guitar at age 13 from the Sears catalog with money from selling a calf. After the Army he played guitar for The Paul Elizondo Latin Orchestra from 1967 to 1974 in San Antonio, Tx. He then put the guitar away and pursued a career as a Registered Nurse, but started playing guitar again in 1997 after a 23 year hiatus.  Since 2003 he  has been the guitarist for  Pecos River Brass big band from Lewisville, Tx., and with  the Hang Time a quartet  consisting of the rhythm section from PRB for the last few years. He also  plays with Swingtime Big Band in Dallas.

Rick is from Tulsa, Oklahoma where he started piano lessons when he was eight. He began playing saxophone a few years later and was a featured soloist in his high school and college stage bands.
